Bromocriptine reduces pituitary tumour size in seventy-five to eighty per cent of patients with large prolactin-secreting tumours, even with gross extrasellar extension. The type of results that can be expected are illustrated by a patient with a large prolactin-secreting tumour, who was treated with bromocriptine alone. The patient had a suprasellar extension and visual field defects. Visual field plots from this patient before and during treatment, as well as after withdrawal and reinstitution of bromocriptine therapy, are illustrated in Fig. 4.19.
